Ms. Hirt was born in December and her hometown is Plymouth, MA. She went to college at University of Maine at Machias for her Bachelors and Massachusetts Maritime Academy for her Masters.
Favorite teacher? Ms. Angelique Lavalee, a peer at my university who became a marine biology teacher - she never gave up on finding ways to help each student learn in a way that was best for them. If you were not in education, what other profession would you like to attempt? I am attempting two professions at the same time! I began as a field scientist studying and rescuing marine animals in New England. I still act as a first responder with marine life and conduct whale watches over the summers all over Cape Cod. Teaching was a natural transition from practicing science formally to bringing it into the classroom! Do you have pets? I have one sweetheart of a dog, a ten year old Boxer named Nala. But does feeding the birds count? I love wildlife! Favorite color? Blue, the color of our Planet Earth Favorite quote or saying? #becauseScience Where is the farthest place you have ever traveled? Eindhoven, Netherlands Favorite Food? Fresh veggies from the garden, and anything with spice! Hobbies or Activities/Organizations you are active in? Whale watching, boating, winter hiking, singing.
